What is Natalie's Knee all about?
The goal of Natalie’s Knee is to introduce students to the profession of physical therapy. This one-day workshop focuses on Natalie - an outgoing teenage girl who has a sports injury. In Natalie's Knee, students review an actual medical case as if they were part of the rehabilitation team responsible for treating Natalie. Students also investigate the social implications of Natalie's injury on her former lifestyle.
Who teaches Natalie's Knee?
Students work under the guidance of masters-level physical therapy students. They participate in hands-on demonstrations of equipment available at Utica College. Students also work with their instructors who introduce them to small group discussions, dissections, the clinical laboratory, and library investigation of musculoskeletal impairments.
Where is Natalie's Knee held and how do I register to take this workshop?
Natalie's Knee is a one-day workshop held on the Utica College campus, and occasionally at other select locations. Students in grades 9 through 12 are eligible to register. There is a registration form which must be completed and sent to CNYAHEC with the $25.00 registration fee. The registration fee includes breakfast and lunch for each student. Scholarships are available for students in need of assistance.
For details on the next open-enrollment workshop, check out our calendar. To keep activities hands-on, enrollment is only open to 20-25 students - so be sure to get your registration form and fee in early! Registration confirmation notices will be sent to all students registering for the workshop.
