MedQuest

It's a hot time for health care!
This summer, explore health careers while making new friends and enjoying a college campus experience. MedQuest offers a week of hands-on activities and classes to introduce students to a variety of science and health career opportunities. MedQuest is for students entering grades 11 and 12 in the fall of 2008.
MedQuest will be held at SUNY Upstate Medical University from July 14-18, 2008 in Syracuse, New York. SUNY Upstate Medical University is one of 125 academic medical centers in the nation. It has four colleges: Medicine, Nursing, Health Professions, and Graduate Studies.
MedQuest is co-sponsored by CNYAHEC, SUNY Upstate Medical University, and Excellus BlueCross BlueShield.
What is MedQuest all about?
Most students attending MedQuest have already identified a strong interest in math and science and are considering college to become a health professional in medicine, nursing, or other allied health professions.
The goal of MedQuest is to introduce students to the relationship between science, the health professions, and health career opportunities while becoming familiar with the hospital and college campus settings.
At camp, students learn about health care and the many health professionals who are at the heart of a busy hospital.
MedQuest will allow students to:
- explore a variety of health careers through interactive workshops
- learn from health professionals and college instructors
- identify the skills needed for careers in health care
- learn about existing science research projects and participate in related activities
- earn CPR and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) certification
- experience dorm living and campus life
MedQuest activities include (list not all-inclusive):
- stitch clinic
- cast clinic
- stress testing
- EKG testing
- trauma transport techniques
- radiation therapy mask making
- bypass surgery techniques demonstration
- joint replacement demonstration
- sonogram demonstration
