Program Assistant (AmeriCorps National Service Position)

 

Rural Health Network of South Central New York/Rural Health Services Corps announces the availability of the position of Program Assistant with CNYAHEC.

 

The Program Assistant will work with the CNYAHEC program manager and staff to deliver health education activities designed to increase interest in health careers for primary and secondary school students throughout CNYAHEC's 14-county region, and assist with other projects as required.  

 

Responsibilities include:

  1. Assist with planning, implementing, and evaluating programs designed to generate interest in health careers as a profession for students in grades K-12.
    Tasks include, but are not limited to: attending or conducting meetings, developing written communications and promotional materials, conducting mailings, working with vendors and partners, overseeing program registrations, chaperoning students, conducting educational activities, making presentations, gathering evaluation data through focus groups/surveys/interviews, data entry, and participating in workshops or trainings as needed to advance skills.
  2. Help to build and maintain relationships among new and existing partners, including schools, health care facilities, and community organizations involved in community health service delivery and health professions education. Candidate will represent CNYAHEC at program planning meetings, community events, participate in the statewide AHEC Program Network group, and in other committees and task forces as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (health, education, health care, public health) is preferred; associate's degree considered. Applicants must have strong skills in the following areas: verbal and written communication; responding to the public in a positive, professional manner; establishing and maintaining appropriate records, reports, and correspondences; maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers and community contacts; working independently with multiple priorities; desktop computers and programs (word processing, desktop publishing, databases). Applicant must be able to plan, organize, and perform work assignments accurately, responsibly, and on-time.

 

This is a part-time AmeriCorps National Service position averaging about 17.5 hours per week located at the CNYAHEC office in Cortland, NY. Occasional early morning, evening, and weekend meetings may be required. Travel within the CNYAHEC 14-county region is required; applicant must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
